The Next Chapter Trunk Show at Peace Tree Brewing Company

How would you like to spend an evening sampling fine beer and gourmet chocolates while you shop?   Yes?  Well, you’re in luck!  We have teamed up with The Peace Tree Brewing Company for a special Next Chapter Trunk Show on Thursday evening, July 1st from 4pm  to 7pm. The Peace Tree tap room is located at 107 W. Main Street in Knoxville.

We found so many great surprises when we went to the Minneapolis gift market this month, that we wanted to create a really special event to showcase our new offerings.  And the Peace Tree was the perfect place with a relaxing atmosphere and fun people — not to mention great artisan beers and sodas.

We’ll be featuring everything from chic sustainable living products, books for summer living, to trendy accessories for the whole family!

And, of course, as the perfect accompaniment to Peace Tree’s wonderful beers, we’ll have some of our gourmet chocolates on hand — just to up the endorphins!

Magic Tree House Passport To Adventure

This week we’re kicking off our Magic Tree House Passport to Adventure summer reading program for kids reading at first and second grade levels, and it has been so fun seeing all those darling smiling faces, just excited to read!

Bring your kids in, any time this week, to register them for this program.  When you do, they’ll receive a Community activity packet, and a Passport to Adventure.  Choose a Magic Tree House book, and when the kids have read one of the books, go to and answer a few trivia questions about the story to earn your Passport stamp!

On July 22nd, The Next Chapter will host a party for participants, and there will be prizes for those readers who have collected the most passport stamps.

The publisher of the Magic Tree House books, which feature Jack and Annie in a series of fun and educational adventures, is also sponsoring an essay contest.  Ask us for an entry form if you think your little reader is also a writer!

What a great Book Club group!

Today was the monthly meeting of our Lunch Bunch book club, and this time it was six ladies gathered to discuss “The Girl who Played with Fire”, the Swedish thriller by Stieg Larsson.

We had a lively discussion on the themes of revenge and self sufficiency, the art of writing and the contrast between intensity and pause.  We wondered what we’ll find in the third and final book, and wondered about what may remain unresolved because of the author’s death.

After this lively roundup of this month’s highly regarded read, we passed around the choices for upcoming months, and, I am pleased to report, they all met with the group’s approval.

So, on to “The Little Giant of Aberdeen County”!

If you are interested in being part of this group, check the Lunch Bunch Book Club page on this web site, read the book of the month, and join us at noon on the first Wednesday of each month.  Bring your lunch and your opinions!
