Preparing for Valentine’s Day

We are making preparations to help you express your affections on Valentine’s Day!  With just over a week to go, Tresa’s been wrapping cute boxes of chocolates, in several different containers.  We’re stocked up on Valentine cards as well — from the heartfelt to the funny.

If you’d like to go a step or two further for the ones you love, we’ve got playful heart and flower themed notepads with pens; lots of trendy accessories, including scarves, bags, jewelry, and more;  journals and notecards, gift books and lots of great romance novels and poetry.

I’m a big advocate of the love poetry route — whether you write it yourself, or find it in a book.  There’s something about Valentine’s day that allows us to pause for a moment, and savor a poem, even though we may be so busy the rest of the time that it’s hard to slow down long enough.  I’ll be working to find a selection of love poems  myself next week, in preparation for a midwinter tea I’ve been invited to speak at.  I’m looking at some of the greats like Emily Dickinson and Pablo Neruda, and also tracking down a few lesser-known morsels of verse that embody the sentiment of love so well.

That’s all I’ve got for now.  I hope to see you all soon! And remember, this year, take some time to Express your feelings of love for the wonderful people in your life!

Valentines Day is upon us!

This Sunday is Valentine’s Day, just in case you hadn’t heard …

and Tresa and I have managed to assemble all the new fixtures we acquired and have filled them up with our new lines of locally handcrafted and quality printed Greeting Cards and other goodies that will make sweethearts all over the county enjoy their Valentine’s Day so much more!

Of course, we have books!  Check out some of  today’s most popular reads like Roses, by Leila Meacham, or the latest thriller from James Patterson, Run for Your Life; Committed, by Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat Pray Love, and the fascinating Big Burn by National Book Award winner Timothy Eagan — we’ve either got them on the shelf or can order them for you within the week!  For younger readers, don’t miss this year’s Newberry Award winner, When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead;  or Tempted, the newest House of Night book from mother daughter team, P.C. Cast. If it’s romance you seek, how about some Love Poetry by Pablo Neruda or Ted Kooser’s Valentines?

If books aren’t quite the thing, we also have beautiful, bright tea pots and a wide selection of Harney and Sons teas, as well as Bellagio Sipping Chocolates to warm up the last cold weeks of winter.

How about some unique, beaded jewelry, a beautiful new scarf, or a chic handbag?  We also have men’s wallets and cashmere scarves or perhaps a cool new book-light would bring a smile?

And when all else fails, a brightly wrapped box of gourmet chocolates accompanied by a heartfelt card should do the trick.

If you’re not the do-it-yourself sort of person, we are happy to help you put your selections together in a Valentine basket sure to please.

So come on in, and let the Next Chapter help you make this a Valentine’s Day to Remember!

It’s Spring!

As I watch the grass turn green and the trees thinking about budding, my thoughts turn to gardening!  I love the feel and smell of the soil — I even love weeding.  Really!

So I’m afraid I’ve stocked up on the garding books a little more heavily than I should have.  There are so many fabulous choices out there to choose from that I couldn’t help myself!  Everything from growing a kitchen garden to planting fabulous containers, choosing the best flowers for Midwest Gardens, and even how to plant a slope is covered.

Then, as I consider how gorgeous my garden will (hopefully) be, I think about how fabulous I also want the interior of my house to look when all the people who come to admire my garden also come in for a glass of the perfectly prepared cold beverages and snacks I’ll always have on hand.

OK, so this is really a fantasy, but hey, reach for the stars, right?  For inspiration I have stocked the home and design shelves with books about decorating, remodelling, and other Do-It-Yourself projects.   Maybe some of them will appeal to you too.

Of course, Spring also means Easter, and Easter means another perfect opportunity for Tresa to display her window decorating artistry.  Watching her choose the gifts and other merchandise we carry; and then decorating the shop with what she finds is one of the best parts of working here.  To complement all the darling bunnies and baby ducks and baskets she’s tracked down, we ordered plenty of bibles, bible stories, prayer books, and childrens Easter and activity books, all perfect for gift giving during this season’s celebrations.

We hope to see you soon at the Next Chapter!
